Description
Karl Friedrich Hermann published in 1842 a new edition of Cicero’s comment on Plato’s Timaeus. The Latin version of the Timaeus is shorter than Plato’s original dialogue, starting from 27d and finishing at 47b. Moreover, Hermann added a study on Cicero’s Latin comment on Plato’s Timaeus, in which he maintains that Cicero did not completely understand Plato’s views and compares some passages from the Timaeus to Cicero’s correspondent comments. Hermann was also the author of a History and System of Platonic Philosophy (Geschichte und System der Platonischen Philosophie, Heidelberg 1839, Bd. 1.) where he criticised Schleiermacher’s chronological order of Plato’s dialogues.
