Le Roy, Louis. Le Timee de Platon traittant de la nature du monde, & de l’home, & de ce qui concerne universelement tant l’ame que le corps des deux: translaté de grec en françois, avec l’exposition des lieux plus obscurs & difficiles, par Loys Le Roy. Paris: Michel de Vascosan, 1551.

Description

The French humanist Louis Le Roy, also known as Regius, published a French translation of the Timaeus in 1551, as well as the translations of the Phaedo, the Republic and the Symposion; a second edition of the Timee is published in 1581. The translation also includes Le Roy’s marginal comments of the “most obscure and difficult” parts of the dialogue. A similar enterprise was the vulgar translation of Timaeus by Sebastiano Erizzo (1558).
